Classes
Classes are taught for two hours every week, 50 weeks of the year. Students learn to draw. They are instructed, at their own pace, in color theory, perspective, composition, etc. Classes are big enough to promote
socialization (making connections between peers) and intimate enough
for personal instruction. Students are introduced to different media –
acrylic, oil pastels, crayon, pen and ink, watercolor, collage. The emphasis
in the classroom is on art for art’s sake and on skills-building. As you can
see for yourself on this website, the art created in Art With Elders classrooms can be
extraordinary.
Currently, Art With Elders is hosted by long-term care facilities in
five Bay Area counties – San Francisco, Alameda, Contra Costa, Santa
Clara and San Mateo.
