Eye to Eye Newsletter
Eye to Eye is an integral part of our “connecting” mission, introducing you to members of our intergenerational community. You’ll learn more
about the Art With Elders (AWE) program by getting to know
the Elder Artists who are at the heart of our work,
the Artist-Instructors who are amazingly effective at bringing out the artistic talents that they believe are natural to their students,
the variety of San Francisco Bay Area facilities that host the program, and
the caregivers who support and encourage their residents’ artistic endeavors.
You’ll be the first to know where public exhibits of art from AWE classes will be
displayed, plans for private and public receptions, fundraising events and, of course,
the Annual AWE Exhibit.
The phrase, “eye to eye” connotes a oneness of purpose, a meeting of the minds.
The great diversity that appears when we skim the surface of the multi-generational
mosaic of American society can also suggest a complexity of experience, opinions, and
proclivities that could be difficult to bridge. Such superficial observation tends to
discourage connections. It’s vital that we dive beneath this surface to re-discover our
commonalities.
Ground zero is the fact that each of us is a valuable member of the human family. Our
humanity links us one to another. It is only on this foundational fact that we can build the
kind of society that will not just survive its current and countless challenges, but thrive to
produce another, better generation.
